Bloody situation
Those who know me well.. know that needles and dentists are very high on my fear-list. But drawing blood is definitely on #1. That thought takes my mind to a dark place, its that bad..
Yesterday was that day, the day I dreaded . The -uuugh- drawing blood-day. Thank God for my sweetie Lessel. We met in the city and she bought me sandwiches and fresh orange juice ‘vitamins are good’. The walk to the hospital, it felt like the last mile. When we were at the hospital, I got teary. ‘Oh noo baby, you’re not going to cry. Its over before you know it. Come on.’ So Les dragged me in and my number was up for room 9. I didnt look while I sat in the chair, all curled up like a child. Instead I counted the monkeys on the wall. And tried to bre…athe. ‘Dre look at your tubes, they’re beautiful.’ Les read to much about vampires lately, I guess… *blink
It wasnt bad at all. Ive been scared… for nothing. It was a joke compared to the horror I expected. My biggest fear isnt on #1 anymore. Probably spiders now.

Top 10 reasons why I’m not following you on Twitter
10. Your updates are protected.
The instant I see someone whose updates are protected, I just close the browser. If you’re looking for privacy, you came to the wrong place.
Sooner or later you’re going to say something interesting (I hope) and I’m going to want to retweet it. Then I have to stop and worry – was this protected? Did they mean for this to be public? Should I ask permission before I retweet it? Screw it – it’s not worth the hassle.
9. I looked at your tweets, and you’re not interacting with anybody.
None of your links are replies – they’re all just loudmouthed shouts out into the unknown. “I had a great day! I’m in a really long line at the bank. I love my job. I sure like those Mets.”
Just because Twitter asks “What are you doing?” doesn’t mean every one of your tweets has to start with the letter I. Here’s how to break out of your rut: start by retweeting some of your friends’ more interesting posts, and then – take a deep breath – actually reply to people.
Even though they’re not directly talking to you, you can still talk to them. If someone asks for help, you should – brace yourself – actually help them. No, not try to sell them something, but help them solve a problem. NO, not solve a problem by using your product, just solve the problem!
8. Your tweets are all links.
I’m not even going to click on ‘em to find out if they’re to your own site or not. I have a hunch that you’re advertising something, and all you do is yell about your product all day long. Every now and then you throw in links to funny videos or news stories thinking that makes up for the spam. It doesn’t. Just because @BarackObama gets away with it doesn’t mean you can. (And no, I don’t follow him either.)
You know That Person who constantly forwards funny jokes and videos to all their friends? The one who instantly makes you groan when you see their name in your in-box because you know it’s a waste of time? You’re like That Person 2.0.
7. You have “social media expert” or “marketing” on your bio.
I even WORK in the marketing department and I can’t stand most marketing people on Twitter because so many of ‘em are doing it wrong.

6. You’re offering me a chance to win if I follow you.
Giving stuff away costs money. So why are you so willing to pay money to get followers?
Imagine if you were walking down the street and you saw somebody yelling, “I’ll enter you in a sweepstakes to win $50 if you come talk to me! C’mon over! Two entries if you tell your friends too!” You’d cross the street just to avoid talking to them, because you know they’re a creep. But somehow, people think it’s okay because it’s new on Twitter.
You might be new to Twitter and think it’s fun and games, but I’ve been here since 2007, and it’s a thin layer of bacon disguising a pile of spam.
5. You haven’t tweeted in weeks, or you haven’t tweeted yet.
I totally understand that some people are here to listen, not to talk. I salute you. I take that exact same approach with a lot of the web sites I read – I never make a comment. They’re just fun for me to read. Twitter might be that same thing for you, and that’s cool. Just don’t take it personally if people don’t follow you back. It’s not that you’re not a great person, but Twitter doesn’t have good tools yet to manage a whole lot of friends & followers. To keep things easy, some people (like me) take the approach of keeping the numbers small and manageable.
Rest assured that if you do start tweeting and you mention my name in a tweet, I’ll get it, and I’ll respond. Twitter does have some good search tools that help power users with that kind of thing. It just gets overwhelming if I get notified of every single thing you say.
4. Your profile doesn’t have the Holy Trinity: a bio, a location and a link.
If I can’t tell who you are, I’m not following you. You’re hiding something.
Locations like “Right Behind You” show me that you have a sense of humor, and that’s a good thing. Locations like “The United States” tell me that you have no sense of humor and no sense of geography, and that’s a bad thing.
If you don’t have a blog, that’s okay, but at least link to something that will tell me more about you – a profile on a site somewhere, your company’s site, your Flickr account, your favorite bar, something that will show me you’re a real human being.
3. Your profile has a company name & photo, but no personality.
I will follow company accounts when they’ve got awesome personalities, like @ThinkGeek, but you’d better show that awesome personality in the very first page of tweets when I click on your name.
For an example of bland, boring press release tweets, see @GlobalKnowledge. (And they serve as a bad example for several of these rules, come to think of it.)
2. You’re following over 1,000 people.
Come on, be for real. You’re not having meaningful conversations with 1,000 people at once. You’re just eavesdropping in a room full of strangers. I’m following almost 500 people, and I’m already getting nervous because it’s about time to start pruning.
Notice that I didn’t say there’s over 1,000 people following YOU – there’s nothing wrong with that. Some people are just really interesting.

More debris found from Air France crash
Searchers have found four more debris fields from an Air France jet that plunged into the Atlantic Ocean early Monday with 228 people on board, the Brazilian Air Force say.

CNN – Three commercial ships were expected to arrive Tuesday at an Atlantic Ocean debris field that may be connected to an Air France jet that disappeared Monday with 228 people on board, Brazilian aviation officials said.
Earlier Tuesday, searchers found an airplane seat, an orange life vest, small white fragments, an oil drum and signs of oil and kerosene about 700 kilometers (435 miles) northeast of the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, said Brazilian Air Force spokesman Jorge Amaral.
There was not enough material to officially say it is wreckage from Flight 447, Amaral said.
The debris was found 80 kilometers (50 miles) east of the plane’s expected flight path, another Brazilian Air Force official said.
Fernando de Noronha is an archipelago of 21 islands around 355 kilometers (220 miles) off the northeast coast of Brazil.
An earlier report by a crew from the Brazilian airline TAM, who said they saw “shiny spots” in the sea along the route of Flight 447, also prompted a search in the territorial waters off the African nation of Senegal.
Senegal is northeast of Fernando de Noronha and also near the plane’s presumed flight path.
The Airbus A330 encountered heavy turbulence early Monday, about three hours after beginning what was supposed to be an 11-hour flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, France, according to Air France CEO Pierre-Henri Gourgeon.
Search continues for missing Air France flight
CNN – Brazilian and French rescue teams continued to search Tuesday for the passengers of an Air France jet that disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean as details of Flight 447 began to emerge.
The Airbus A330 encountered heavy turbulence about 02:15 a.m. local time Monday (10:15 p.m. ET Sunday), some three hours after the jet carrying 228 people left Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for Paris, France, on an 11-hour flight, according to Air France CEO Pierre-Henri Gourgeon.
At that point, the plane’s automatic system initiated a four-minute exchange of messages to the company’s maintenance computers, indicating “several pieces of aircraft equipment were at fault or had broken down,” he told reporters.
During that time, there was no contact with the crew, Gourgeon said. “It was probable that it was a little bit after those messages that the impact of the plane took place in the Atlantic,” he added. The Airbus A330 was off radar and probably closer to Brazil than to Africa at the time, he said.
Two squadrons from Brazil’s air force launched a search near the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha in the Atlantic Ocean, about 225 miles (365 kilometers) from Brazil’s coast, an air force spokesman told CNN. And French President Nicolas Sarkozy said France sent ships and planes to the area about 250 miles (400 kilometers) from Brazil. ”Our Spanish friends are helping us, Brazilians are helping us a lot as well,” he said.
The Brazilian air force received a report that a flight crew from the Brazilian airline TAM reported seeing “shiny spots” in the sea on the route of Flight 447. Senegalese authorities were notified about the sighting in their airspace, but a ship searched the area without result.
Among the passengers were 126 men, 82 women, seven children and a baby, in addition to the 12 crew members, Air France said.

Man suspected of targeting Dutch royals dies

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands – The man who killed five people with his car during an attack on the Dutch royal house has died of his injuries, prosecutors said on Friday.
The suspect, a 38-year-old man identified by Dutch media as Karst Tates, had been in critical condition since the attack during the Netherlands Queen’s Day holiday on Thursday.
Prosecuters confirmed his death Friday morning.
Twelve other people were hurt in the attack.
The speeding car, already dented apparently from catapulting bystanders into the air, passed within a few meters of the open-topped bus carrying Queen Beatrix and her family down a parade route, then smashed into a stone monument.
“I think that it has become clear that this happened with premeditation,” Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said Thursday.
Prosecutors said the driver acknowledged targeting the queen and her family.
Before he died, “the man said that his action was aimed at the royal family,” said prosecutor Ludo Goossens.
Motive?
The motive for the attack was unclear. Dutch media, citing neighbors, said the assailant recently was fired from his job and was to be evicted from his home. Police identified him as a 38-year-old Dutch man with no history of mental illness or police record, but they would not release his name.
Officials in Apeldoorn said the suspect had a map of the queen’s route.
Celebrations were canceled for Queen’s Day, the national holiday that was to draw millions of people to street dances, picnics and outdoor parties under sunny skies around the country. Flags were lowered to half staff. The Dutch Embassy in Washington canceled a scheduled reception.
Queen: ‘Shocked us all’
A shaken Queen Beatrix extended her sympathies to the victims in a brief nationally televised address. “What began as a great day has ended in a terrible tragedy that has shocked us all deeply,” she said.
The driver apparently acted alone and was not linked to any terrorist or ideological group. No explosives were found in his car or in his home, said Goossens.
“From initial contact with police before the suspect was removed from the car … we have reason to believe it was a deliberate action,” Goossens told reporters.
Shortly before the attack, the queen, her son Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his popular Argentine-born wife, Princess Maxima, had walked up to the crowd behind police barricades, accepting flowers and shaking hands.
The driver apparently tried to intercept the bus as it turned a corner to a road leading to the gates of the Het Loo palace a few hundred meters from the intersection in this eastern Dutch town.
Though the sequence of events was still murky, he apparently crashed his small black car through two sets of police barriers, smashing his windscreen and damaging the front of the vehicle even before slamming into the monument.
The final few seconds were captured on video and film by news teams following the royal family in a press bus.
Reporters saw people thrown high in the air from the impact or tumbling down the street, their broken limbs askew. First aid crews and police officers ran to the victims and applied revival techniques.
The driver, bleeding from the head and nose, was slumped against the seat when police lifted him out and put him into an ambulance.
Children among the injured
Earlier, Apeldoorn Mayor Fred de Graaf said eight of the 13 injured were in serious condition, with two men and two women killed. Later, a third man died of his injuries, said Apeldoorn municipality spokesman Toon Schuiling. Two teenagers and a 9-year-old girl were among the severely injured.
“We are speechless that something so terrible could have happened,” the queen said in a rare televised appearance. “My family, and I think everybody in the country, sympathize with the victims, their families and friends and all who have been hit so hard by this accident.”
Dutch television footage showed the prince and princess watching in astonishment from the bus’s high open platform. Maxima held her hand over her mouth in apparent horror.
The bus was not hit and no one in the queen’s entourage was injured.
A policeman narrowly escaped injury when he jumped off his bicycle to avoid being hit.
Shortly after the crash, investigators and a sniffer dog examined the car for explosives, then sliced off the roof of the car for a closer inspection.
Journalist Peter van de Vorst told RTL television that the incident was like watching a horrible movie.

She was at the wrong place, at the wrong time. The actress -married to film director Roman Polanski- was 8,5 months pregnant and was at home with her friends Jay Sebring, Wojtek Frykowski and Abigail Folger.

Rihanna is still recovering in Barbados, according to sources she isn’t on speaking-terms with Chris.
Meanwhile JAY-Z has issued a warning to Chris amid the allegations. “Chris is a walking dead man. He messed with the wrong crew,” he told US Weekly.

I became a better person, I learned a bunch of new life-lessons and I started to appreciate more things in life. Unfortunatily there were also some sad happenings -as recent as last week- when Rian passed away. That was extremely hard to deal with. That’s why I feel blessed that we had some great moments with her last week, she was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately these things come with life and we have to try hard to accept that, to get the peace we need to go on. I’m sure 2009 will be a year with fun things, memorable moments and of course the occasional challenges. Don’t forget to count your blessings and no matter what, always try to be humble in life, that’s what makes a person shine and stand out.

CNN - Barack Obama told supporters that “change has come to America” as he claimed victory in a historic presidential election.
With Obama’s projected win, he will become the first African-American to win the White House.
Obama had an overwhelming victory over Sen. John McCain, who pledged Tuesday night to help Obama lead.
“Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much, and tonight, I remain her servant,” McCain said.
McCain called Obama to congratulate him, and Obama told the Arizona senator he was eager to sit down and talk about how the two of them can work together.
President Bush also called Obama to offer his congratulations.
Bush told Obama he was about to begin one of the great journeys of his life, and invited him to visit the White House as soon as it could be arranged, according to White House spokeswoman Dana Perino.
Obama will be working with a heavily Democratic Congress. Democrats picked up Senate seats in New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia, among others.
“While the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress,” Obama said.
Flanked by American flags, Obama told the roaring crowd, “This is your victory.”
“To those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your president too,” he said.Supporters in Chicago cheering, “Yes, we can” were met with cries of “Yes, we did.”
More than 1,000 people gathered outside of the White House, chanting “Obama, Obama!”
Sen. Hillary Clinton, Obama’s former rival for the Democratic nomination, said in a statement that “we are celebrating an historic victory for the American people.”
“This was a long and hard fought campaign but the result was well worth the wait. Together, under the leadership of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and a Democratic Congress, we will chart a better course to build a new economy and rebuild our leadership in the world.”
Sen. Ted Kennedy said Americans “spoke loud and clear” in electing Obama.
“They understood his vision of a fairer and more just America and embraced it. They heard his call for a new generation of Americans to participate in government and were inspired. They believed that change is possible and voted to be part of America’s future,” the Massachusetts senator said in a statement.
As results came in Tuesday night, Obama picked up early wins in Pennsylvania and Ohio – states considered must-wins for McCain.
Obama also won Virginia, a state that has not voted for a Democratic president since 1964.
Going into the election, national polls showed Obama with an 8-point lead.
Voters expressed excitement and pride in their country after casting their ballots in the historic election. Poll workers reported high turnout across many parts of the country, and some voters waited hours to cast their ballots.
Tuesday marks the end of the longest presidential campaign season in U.S. history – 21 months.
Obama, 47, will now begin his transition to the White House. He will be sworn in at the 44th president on January 20, 2009.

Palma’s Birthday
Palma (mijn aller- allerliefste zus op de héle wereld) vierde afgelopen zaterdag haar verjaardag! Uiteindelijk waren we met Carl, Belinda, Marlon, Bobby, Lesley, Tristan, Sharon, Daantje en Gio. Het duurde even voodat ik door had dat hij dé Gio was.. pff shame on me. Het was lekker chill, oldschool rondgehangen, lekker gegeten, gelachen, picts gemaakt en dealtjes gesloten, maar allerbelangrijkst; Palma’s verjaardag gevierd!

So far en nog in de planning
Vanavond gaan we naar Trogir, waar we met Senka hebben afgesproken. ’s Avonds is het heerlijk om naar de stad te gaan, overdag is het minder chill. Maar alleen vanwege de hitte. De afgelopen week is het gemiddeld 34 graden geweest. In de schaduw. You do the math, hoe heet het in de zon is. Slenteren door de straten met tassen vol “boodschapjes”, een cappuchino op de Riva, langs onze favoriete (met airco!) drogist DM, over de markt. It’s really nice. Het leven is zorgeloos hier. Weinig blabla, veel relaxte momenten. Gisteren hebben we gezwommen bij Aqua, waar we altijd beginnen met een cappuchino en eindigen met drankjes waar altijd wel-een-beetje-alcohol-in-zit. Hmm, Het klinkt vast veel erger dat het is. Ik begon met een koffie, coca cola zero, mineraalwater, een cocktail, een special edition koffie/schuim/hazelnoot specially made for Dre en daarna kreeg ik een gezonde verse bananenshake met een beetje chocolade-deco. Om de honger te stillen, zei de barguy . Uiteindelijk zijn we tot 2130 bij Aquarius gebleven. Van Vedran hebben we een recept gekregen en hij stuurde ons op tijd weg zodat we nog boodschappen konden halen voor sluitingstijd. We hebben kipfilet gebakken, met heel veel verse champignons, uitjes, verse feferoni, suiker en room. Enne.. zonder pasta. Can you believe that? It was delicious.. Tijdens het eten (om 2300!) hebben we nog een stuk van Kill Bill gekeken op tv. Daarna zijn we de tuin uitgelopen voor een avond-dip in de zee.
Morgen gaan we rond 1100 naar Trogir en om 1300 hebben we afgesproken met Pieter en Vinka om in Vranjica te gaan zwemmen en BBQ-en. Dinsdag gaan we met Senka shoppen in Split, en waarschijnlijk ook naar Neno en Tanja, in Bacvice. Donderdag is er weer een Beach Party bij Aqua, dus daar gaan we vast heen. Verder hebben we nog geen idee wat de planning is, en dat is rustgevend let me tell you!

Rivaal Hillary Clinton was ondanks de ruime overwinning van haar opponent nog niet bereid haar nederlaag te accepteren. Ze feliciteerde Obama tijdens een toespraak in New York met een ‘fantastische race’, maar nam het woord overwinning of verlies niet in de mond. “Hoe gaan we verder?”, stelde ze zichzelf de vraag die heel Amerika op de lippen brandt. Om vervolgens opnieuw haar opties open te houden. “Dit was een lange strijd en we zijn heel ver gekomen. Ik neem vanavond geen beslissing”. Clinton zei de komende dagen te willen overleggen met haar supporters en naaste medewerkers. “Ik zal doen wat het beste is voor de partij en voor dit land”, beloofde ze. Obama’s zege markeert het einde van een slepende voorverkiezing, die precies vijf maanden geleden begon in Iowa. Het is tegelijkertijd de onofficiële start van Obama’s strijd tegen Republikein John McCain om het Witte Huis. In zijn overwinningstoespraak zwaaide Obama lof naar Clinton en opende tegelijkertijd de aanval op McCain. “Je kunt niet van verandering spreken als John McCain zich 95 procent van de tijd achter Bush schaart, zoals hij het afgelopen jaar in de senaat deed”, sprak hij. De overwinning van Obama op Hillary Clinton is een van de grootste verrassingen in de recente politieke geschiedenis van de VS. Clinton was als de voormalige First Lady, echtgenote van een populaire ex-president en beroemdste vrouwelijke politicus in de VS, vanaf het begin de gedoodverfde winnaar. Zij had het meeste geld, de meeste ervaring en de grootste naamsbekendheid. In alle peilingen stond ze mijlenver bovenaan. Maar de relatief onervaren senator uit Illinois met die ietwat vreemde naam, wist de harten van de Amerikanen te winnen met een boodschap van hoop en verandering. Hij ontpopte zich tot een ongekend politiek fenomeen en won uiteindelijk de meeste staten en de meeste gedelegeerden. Obama’s succes betekent ook het einde van een tijdperk waarin de Clintons de partij domineerden. Als nieuwe leider van de Democraten beloofde de senator gisteravond eenheid en een overwinning in november. “Amerika. Dit is ons moment.” Maar Obama heeft nog een lastigste hobbel te nemen voor hij zijn volle aandacht op John McCain kan richten: de onderhandelingen met Hillary Clinton. First days at PH
Een korte samenvatting van deze week tot nu toe. Maandag was mn eerste werkdag (It’s official). De juiste term op het werk is “los”. Klinkt gevaarlijk hoor. Ik heb meteen geleerd hoe kostbaar je “coffeebreak” is. Die ik op mn eerste dag verspilt heb achter de balie. Keep a close eye on it. Okay. Dus na 1,5 uur balie mocht ik meteen 2 uur floorwalken. Zonder eten. Zonder drinken. Geen 5 minuten om te zitten, chillen, relaxen. Niks van dat alles. Dat is zwaar, let me remind you. Anyway, eigen schuld.. dikke mega-bult. Nóóit meer iemand helpen in je eigen tijd. Very precious. Bij de balie was het meteen raak met overbagage. Een Amerikaanse vrouw. Two pieces allowed. En wat had mevrouw? Three pieces en op de eerste twee koffers zware excess baggage. ‘I have to charge you 2 x 50 euro’s and another 150 euro’s for the extra piece’. Dat doet zeer. Het duurde niet lang voordat de tranen kwamen. Lekker dan, waarom moet je dan aan mijn balie komen? Aan balie caring&compassionate.. Wat ik me eigenlijk afvraag.. Hoe komt één persoon op Schiphol met 75 kilo? Hup, door naar payment. Néééxt. Okay.. wat leer je tijdens de trainingen? Nooit een koffer “doortrappen” zonder bagagelabel. En als het gebeurt, niet bellen met de bagagekelder dat het gaat om een zwarte Samsonite. Want daar schijnen er duizenden van te zijn. Guess what? Dre mag met spoed bellen met de bagagekelder. ‘Om wat voor koffer gaat het?’ ‘Een zwarte Samsonite.’ Gelukkig had meneer er meerdere herkenbare labels mét naam aan zitten. Pfff.. geluk bij een ongeluk. ‘Het gaat helemaal goed komen, wij gaan hem hier beneden labelen.’ Nou dat is even mazzel hebben. Vooral als je weet dat er 55.000 koffers per dag verwerkt worden. Het is wel héél cliché om op je eerste dag een zwarte Samsonite ongelabeled door te trappen. Ik heb het verder ook met niemand gedeeld* Shhht.. our secretx Dre

You gotta love the Shanghai people
What can happen when you are boarding for Toronto? Right after this flight was the Shanghai flight on the same gate. It can be pretty crazy when you constantly have to explain -to Chinese people who totally don’t understand English- that they are in the right place, ‘but not for another hour, we’re boarding for Toronto now, you still have 45 min, please come back around 2 o’clock, nooo not boarding now unless you wanna go to Canada, yééés in one hour, lots of time to go shopping, yes this is the right gate, yes to Shanghai -here- but later, I’ll write it on your boarding pass..’ ‘boadin paas?!’ I’ve said it all, heard it all.. for real. Try to keep smiling, don’t lose your patience and stay friendly! A passenger for Toronto witnessed it all and complimented me. He was amazed that I kept on smiling and didn’t lose my mind. It was a good day.

Carl’s Journey
Today one of our best friends left for more than five months. He is flying to Hongkong.. as we speak. His journey includes places like Bangkok, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia etc. Lesley and I worked this morning, so we could say goodbye at the gate! While grabbing a bite, he was stressing about the boarding time. “Calm down C, you’ll make it. They give an early boarding time to make sure the passengers are on time at the gate.” Although he even worked on Schiphol for a long time, it was obvious he was a -real- passenger, including all the stress that comes along with it. We laughed, made a lot of picts and said goodbye.. for now*
